For nearly two weeks, Martin Massa and Sarah Kamuganga, have been seeking to find out the truth regarding the disappearance and reported death of their daughter Melisa Aneza. She went missing on November 10 at the time when Massa intended to take her back to Naalya SS, Lugazi campus where she had been suspended.

The parents reported the case at Wandegeya police station but as they searched for whereabouts, social media started circulating an image of a female teenager’s body retrieved from a swamp in Naggalama, Mukono district. They rushed to Naggalama police station where they were shown the pictures and a navy-blue skirt removed from the body bearing the name of Nanyonga V.H.

Massa said they confirmed that it was indeed their daughter’s body but police maintains it cannot conclude that it was Aneza’s corpse because says they want more than word of mouth evidence. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson said Aneza’s incident is now being investigated by Wandegeya and Naggalama police stations and it will involve DNA testing.

“The first case of a missing juvenile was reported at Wandegeya Police Station on 6th November 2025, in which Kamuganga Sarah reported the disappearance of her daughter, Aneza Merisa. The second incident, under investigation at Nagalama Police Station, involves the recovery of a decomposing body,” Owoyesigyire said.

Details show Aneza’s suspected body, was retrieved from Musaale Swamp, Namulaba Village, Kyampisi Subcounty, on 10th November 2025. “The body was dressed in a navy-blue student skirt labelled “Nanyonga VII,” indicating that the victim may have been a student. The specific school is yet to be identified, and police are engaging nearby institutions to establish whether they have any missing learners,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police said due to the advanced state of decomposition, the mortuary staff in Kayunga buried the body in a cemetery. Police added: “When the parents of the missing child learnt of the body recovered in Nagalama, they assumed it could be their daughter. However, this remains unconfirmed, as they have not physically viewed the body.”

Owoyesigyire said as part of the ongoing investigations, police have applied for a court order to guide the exhumation of the body. “Samples will be extracted for DNA analysis to determine whether the remains are those of the missing child, Aneza Merisa. We appeal to the general public to remain calm as investigations have not yet established any link between the missing juvenile and the body recovered in Nagalama.,” Owoyesigyire said.
