Police in Nagalama have recovered two cows suspected to have been stolen after residents intercepted a vehicle allegedly transporting the animals in Mukono District, as investigations continue to identify both the rightful owners and the suspects.
According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred on July 20, 2026, at about 4:00 a.m. in Nkoko Village, Kakukulu Parish, Kasawo Sub-county, Mukono District. Residents intercepted a grey Toyota Noah, registration number UA 361AW, after becoming suspicious of its occupants, who were transporting two female cows believed to have been stolen.
Police said that upon being confronted by the residents, the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leaving behind both the motor vehicle and the animals. The residents secured the cows but, in the process, damaged the abandoned vehicle before police officers arrived.
The two recovered cows and the Toyota Noah have since been taken into police custody and are being held as exhibits to aid ongoing investigations.
Preliminary information indicates that the cattle may have been stolen from Kayunga District, although police have not yet identified the owners. Investigators are working to trace the rightful owners while pursuing leads to identify and arrest those responsible for the suspected theft.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala said investigations remain active and appealed to members of the public to assist with information that could help resolve the case.
“We have recovered two female cows suspected to have been stolen, together with the motor vehicle that was allegedly being used to transport them. Our preliminary findings suggest that the animals may have been stolen from Kayunga District. We are working to identify the rightful owners and to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene. We urge anyone with information regarding the ownership of the cattle or the whereabouts of the suspects to report to the nearest police station,” SP Rachael Kawala said.
Police have assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
