George Nyombi Thembo has been named the new Executive Director for Uganda Communications Commission.
His Appointment comes after Irene Kaggwa Ssewankambo has substantively been serving in the position since 2020.
Thembo, who previously served as State Minister of ICT, has been heading the The Uganda Communications Universal Services Access Fund (UCUSAF), formerly known as Rural Communications Development Fund (RCDF) at UCC.
He has contended against 3 others including Irene Kaggwa who has been serving as the substantive director.
The last Executive Director Godfrey Mutabazi exited in 2020 after serving the commission for 10 years.
Nyombi earns a five year contract at this point which is subjective to renewal once.
It was in September 2023 when the UCC publicly advertised the position which surprised many since Kaggwa had steered the position for 4 years.
The Minister for ICT and National Guidance by law reserves the mandate to appoint the executive director for UCC which is an autonomous entity under the ministry of ICT.
The position requires successful candidates to have a master’s degree in law , economics , finance , management, administration and any other related field .
In addition, it requires 15 years of strategic experience in management, Government, regulatory policies and development.
These all onto five years experience in senior management roles in corporate environment.
