Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested more than 300 suspects in intelligence-led operations targeting suspected criminal gangs and drug-related activities across the metropolitan area ahead of the festive season.
The operations, conducted on October 28, 29 and 30, 2026, were carried out in collaboration with other security agencies in several policing divisions, including Katwe, Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala, Kabalagala, Wandegeya, Kira and Jinja Road.
SP Rachael Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said the coordinated crackdown targeted crime-prone areas and suspected criminal hideouts as security agencies intensified efforts to prevent crime during the approaching festive season.
She said the operations focused on suspected criminals, particularly individuals allegedly involved in drug and substance abuse and other activities associated with criminal gangs and networks.
“The coordinated operations resulted in the arrest of more than 300 suspects and the recovery of several exhibits believed to be connected to criminal activities,” Kawala said.
She added that the operations were intelligence-led and involved joint efforts by police and other security agencies to identify and disrupt criminal activities across the Kampala Metropolitan Area. Kawala said all the suspects were being held in police custody as investigations continued.
She explained that the suspects would undergo police screening and other procedures before being processed and taken to court in accordance with the law. Kawala also said the exhibits recovered during the operations would be examined and considered as part of the ongoing investigations into suspected criminal activities.
She said Kampala Metropolitan Police, working with other security agencies, remained committed to dismantling criminal gangs, disrupting criminal networks and preventing crime across the metropolitan area. Kawala urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could help prevent criminal activities.
She encouraged residents to report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest police station, saying public cooperation was important in maintaining law and order. Kawala said police would continue working with other security agencies to strengthen public safety and protect residents and visitors throughout the festive season.
