The quartet is linked to theft of 27 million shilling from a vehicle belonging to Joseph Kiggundu on November 3rd, 2022 at Rubaga Kabusu. The group on Monday this week were intercepted by the public while attempting to steal another motor vehicle in Mengo.

Visibly charged citizens had started pouncing on them and were planning to set them ablaze. It was only the distress call made by one of the nearby persons that show police swung into action and rescued the suspects from the charged mob.

“The public had decided to take the law into their hands and practice mob action against them. However, the police were informed promptly, and we responded and managed to arrest them. They are currently detained at Old Kampala Police Station,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Police found the quartet with fake number plates and car-breaking implements. Police also managed to recover the motor vehicle used in the commission of the offenses with registration number UBE 029V.

“We would like to commend the concerned citizens who helped in the arrest of the suspects and caution the public against taking the law into their hands. We assure the public that inquiries into the matter are ongoing, and the suspects will be arraigned in court to answer to the charges,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

The quartet were captured on mobile phone cameras and victims of their acts have been urged to show up and record statements that would be used in their prosecution. ASP Owoyesigyire has urged the public to continue cooperating with the police in ensuring the safety and security of their communities.
