Police have recovered equipment suspected to have been used in the illegal manufacture of motor vehicle and motorcycle number plates during an operation in Kabawo Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Lubaga Division, Kampala.
The operation was conducted on November 4, 2026, at about 10:30am, following information received by police about an individual allegedly involved in forging vehicle and motorcycle number plates.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, officers from Nateete Police Division responded to the information and proceeded to the home of a suspect identified as Ssekitoleko Aloysius.
However, Owoyesigyire said the suspect reportedly fled upon noticing the arrival of the officers, prompting police to conduct a search of the premises in the presence of local council leaders, the landlord and neighbours.
During the search, police recovered two tampered number plates, metallic figures ranging from zero to nine, alphabetic letters from A to Z and machines suspected to have been used in manufacturing number plates.
Other items recovered included spray paint, Uganda flag stickers and various materials allegedly used in designing number plates. Police also recovered a Samsung mobile phone and other items suspected to have been stolen. Owoyesigyire said the exhibits had been documented and taken into police custody to support ongoing investigations, while efforts were underway to trace and arrest the suspect.
He cautioned members of the public against engaging in the production, possession or use of forged number plates, warning that such activities are criminal offences. He also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
