Police in Kawempe is a holding Emmanuel Bagenda, a Senior Three student of St Janan Luwum secondary school in Kabalagala after he was found sitting exams for Huda Namuwonge a repeater of Senior Four exams at Kawempe Standard School located in Kazo Angola ward.
Bagenda, who is aged 17 landed himself in trouble at 3 pm on Monday when S4 students were sitting for the second mathematics paper. The invigilators became puzzled when two students used the same index number U1002/099 in the first mathematics paper.
“One student using the name Bagenda Emanuel aged 17yrs used the index U1002/099 and at the same time, another student used the same index No. U1002/099 in the names of Namuwonge Huda 19yrs. This brought confusion among the invigilation team in the second paper of Mathematics where now Bagenda Emanuel used U1002/099 and Namuwonge Huda used U1002/098,” a security source said.
When confusion became bare, police were called in for fact findings by the school invigilator. Police officers interrogated Bagenda and Namuwonge who later confessed to their malpractice attempts.
“On confession, one student Bagenda Emanuel was brought into the school as machinery to do exams for one Namuwonge Huda who was repeating S.4. Police established that Bagenda Emanuel is an S.3 student of St. Janan Luwum School at Kabalagala, in Makindye Division,” security source added.
When he realized that he was heading to jail, Bagenda told police officers that he was connected by his class teacher Kigozi to the headteacher of Kawempe standard school as a clever student to sit exams for Namuwonge.
“The plan was for the two students to have nearby index numbers and write the opposite names and index numbers, but Bagenda forgot and wrote the girl’s name with index number U1002/099 which would otherwise be his own,” sources added.
Police have since established that Bagenda Emanuel’s index is U1002/099 and Namuwonge Huda’s is index U1002/098. The two students alongside the head teacher Moses Hamara, who resides at Kawempe Kuttano have been arrested.
After arresting Bagenda, Namuwonge, and Hamara, the police team rushed to St Janan Luwum to arrest teacher Kigozi but he had already left the school since he doesn’t reside at the school.
The trio has today recorded statements as the hunt for teacher Kigozi intensifies. S4 exams started yesterday and over 349,445 will complete their papers by end of November. Out of these, 50.3 percent are males while the rest are females.
