At least 60 suspects have been arrested in the operation conducted by Jinja Road police and sister security agencies targeting thugs.
Police alongside Army carried out overt and covert operations in the black spots after several people cried foul of thugs attacking them during morning, daytime, evening and night hours.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, said criminals had pitched camp in areas of Mutungo, Kinawataka, Mbuya, Bugolobi and the surrounding areas.
“In the operation, 60 suspects were arrested and some exhibits like opium, breaking implements and suspected stolen properties were recovered,” Onyango said.
But after screening was done, police remained with 50 suspects who have since been arraigned before Nakawa court and charged with public nuisance.
A few days ago, police conducted operations in Centra business district where over 100 suspects were netted. However, only 80 were charged in City Hall court after screening.
