At the end of last week, social media particularly WhatsApp and Tiktok was washed with videos of four people stripped and being beaten at Northern Bypass side of Namboole. Even though the four suspects of foiled robbery included two men and two men, the videos showed a group of men were seen the video forcing stripped women to spread their legs as they filmed and condemning them for engaging in acts of robbery.
This incident happened on Wednesday last week at around 9:30am at Ntebetebe village less than a kilometer from Namboole stadium. The victims have since been identified as Benjamin Seruyange 30 and Jonas Kanyike 27, both residents of Namungoona, Lubaga division in Kampala, and Everine Busingye 30, a bar attendant in Kyambogo, Nakawa division, and Mercy Namyalo, a resident of Kibuye, Makindye division, Kampala.
Senior Commissioner of Police, Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, described the acts barbaric that deserves all condemnation. Enanga said the crowd’s actions demeaned the dignity of humanity more so the women who were being forced to widen their legs and as the ruthless men filmed their private parts.
Police said much as the victims are accused of participating in criminality, they still deserved their rights of privacy but also needed to be regarded as innocent until proven guilty by competent court.
Based on that barbaric act, police have opened up a file to hunt for each and every person who participated in the stripping, beating and recording victims who they forced to spread their legs. Kira Road, Bweyogerere and Kireka police stations have tasked with the hunt.
