Two people are nursing bullet wounds after they were shot and injured by thugs that varnished with their 40 million shillings.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, said the incident happened yesterday at Mpumu Village Kisoga Town Council Mukono district when Mutai Livingstone a manager at Salama Tea estate and Kalungi Bashir 50 a security guard at the same company were driving from Kasoko after picking up employees’ salaries at the farm amounting to over 40m Uganda shillings.
Owoyesigyire explain that unknown thugs armed with guns shot at Mutai and Kalungi motor vehicle UAS 250D Toyota Turbo double cabin from both sides of the road.
“It is alleged that the gunmen made away with the gun and money amounting to 40m Shillings. Two people were injured before the alleged assailants robbed them of Shs 40 million,” Owoyesigyire said.
Mutai and Kalungi were later rushed to Herona hospital but due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were referred to Mulago hospital where they are currently admitted.
“The police arrived at the scene and have since managed to collect items that it has exhibited, the stolen gun was also recovered by the police a few meters from the crime scene after being abandoned by assailants,” Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire further explained that police also observed that the assailants were shooting from all sides while taking cover in the nearby vegetation.
Police has embarked on the hunt for the alleged robbers. Since this year began, Mukono has registered numerous armed robbery incidents.
In July, Col Fred Mwesigye and now retired AIGP Edward Ochom, gave a shoot to kill order. Security nabbed 13 suspects including Kampala based businessman Zziwa who was allegedly buying stolen electronics like flat TV screens.
