At least four people have been arrested in a foiled robbery of Edward Himbisa, 36, the business development manager of City Medicals -Kampala. The suspects have been identified as Seruyange Benjamin 30, Busingye Everine, 30, Namyalo Mercy, and Kanyike Jonas 27.
Police have revealed that Himbisa was blocked at around 9:30 pm at Ntebetebe zone opposite Jubilee Christian life church along Northern Bypass. According to Himbisa, men in civilian wear and one of them armed with a gun blocked him when he was driving his Probox UBK 019L. The attackers who had parked a Toyota Hiace white in colour seemed to have been waiting for any target but Himbisa, unfortunately, became the first victim.
“I was driving and I met a parked vehicle Toyota Hiace taxi UBD 071P a Toyota Hiace white in colour with about six occupants dressed in civilian attires while one was armed with an AK 47 gun. I was blocked and ordered to come out,” Himbisa narrated.
Luckily enough, Himbisa moved out with the car keys. One of them quickly entered the car expecting to find the keys inside and he drives it away. Himbisa’s car has an automatic lock system, and he used to lock the attacker inside. He immediately made an alarm that attracted nearby drivers and other people.
“When I locked him inside, I made an alarm. This forced the armed person to take off to the nearby Bush and their vehicle also took off with the rest of the occupants towards Namboole. But because I shouted pointing at the vehicle, passers-by were attracted and they helped me to chase the robbers’ vehicle,” Himbisa explained.
It has been established that the robbers’ vehicle was chased and blocked by UAZ 027L and a Range Rover whose registration number was not readily established. Police commanded by Assistant Superintendent of Police -ASP Ezra Asiimwe rescued the suspects from the charged crowd. The robbery case is being investigated on case reference SD 28/05/10/2022.
