Robber Pins City Trader Over Buying His Stolen Items

A city trader, Muhammad Senkumba, has been arrested after being pinned by arrested serial robber, Charles Yiga, that he buys stolen items from him. Yiga who was arrested on Tuesday in intelligence led operations shocked police when he confessed that several TVs and other electronic devices he has been robbing from various homes, he sells them to Senkumba.

Yiga before leading police to Senkumba’s shop in the City Centre, first took officer to areas of Ndeeba, Salama Road, Namasuba, Najjanankumbi and Busabala where he has recently attacked homes, mugged occupants and robbed their items.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, said Yiga confessed that he recently robbed 7 television screens, numerous subwoofers and home theatres. But all these, he sold them to Senkumba.  

“Gang leader arrested and suspected stolen items recovered in an Operation carried out by Katwe Police station. During interrogation, Yiga confessed to having participated in a spate of robberies The items that are stolen from different homes are later sold to Senkumba Muhammad who was also arrested,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Police raided Senkumba’s shop where 10 TV sets of different sizes, 10 pieces of iron boxes and 12 speakers of different hoofers were also recovered. Police have since established that owners of homes where Yiga robbed the items had filed cases.

“It is also important to note that Yiga has on several occasions been arrested and arraigned in courts of law on allegations of aggravated robbery using pangas and one case in 2018 was dismissed,” ASP Owoyesigyire added.

Yiga currently out on bail on an offence he was charged with, in 2019. Police have sent his case file to Resident State Attorney for advice and probable sanctioning on allegations of robbery and possessing suspected stolen items.
