Police fired several teargas canisters to disperse a crowd of people that was following presidential aspirant, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, as he headed to Bulange to meet Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister, Charles Peter Mayiga.
Bobi Wine was first intercepted by police along Bombo Road by both general duty and Field Force Police –FFU. Police ordered Bobi Wine and his supporters to take Yusuf Lule road but they declined thus prompting police to fire teargas and bullets.
Despite several police attempts to block Bobi Wine and his group from continuing with their journey, fans who were in hundreds persisted until he reached Bulange where he held a meeting with Katikkiro Mayiga.
While at Bulange, Mayiga informed Bobi Wine and his team that the kingdom welcomes all people regardless of their religious or political affiliations. Mayiga reminded Bobi Wine that Buganda cherishes someone who honours and fronts Buganda matters. In response, Bobi Wine promised to emphasize Buganda issues just like he will do for Busoga, Acholi and other regions when he wins the forthcoming presidential elections.
Bobi Wine will be the biggest challenger of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2021 election. Museveni has been in power since 1986. Museveni’s main rival in the last 20 years has been FDC’s Dr Kizza Besigye. However, Dr Besigye has vowed not to participate in an election in which he claims his victory has been repeatedly cheated.
