The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has decided on the fate of Eva Mbabazi, a woman arrested in connection to the mysterious death of Henrob Hospital founder, Dr Spire Kiggundu. The DPP has advised the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) to release Mbabazi after finding no acts of foul play in the evidence presented by detectives in regards to Dr Kiggundu’s death.
Earlier on, Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said Mbabazi was arrested on Monday this week.
“We used CCTV cameras to trace for this woman and we arrested her on Monday this week. She is detained at our Kajjansi police division. She is cooperative and has provided the information which we have submitted to State Attorney to give us legal advice,” SSP Onyango said.
Dr Kiggundu was discovered dead inside Dream Guest House, in Kajjansi town council, which he entered using the behind entrance. His family became suspicious after learning that he had not returned home and his known telephone contacts were off. The family worked with police force to trace his movement using the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) erected on various roads in Kampala.
After his body was discovered, police and the family took it to Mulago hospital morgue where a postmortem was conducted. It was discovered that Dr Kiggundu died of heart related complications.
“We ask everyone to disregard reports that he was killed. The postmortem which was done in our presence has indicated that he died of heart related condition. There was low blood supply to his heart,” Dr Luyimbazi, a family member said.
The same revelation was made in a statement renowned cartoonist, Dr Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, posted on his X account. But police said the CCTV footage retrieved from Dream Guest House showed a woman arriving the same premises minutes after Dr Kiggundu had arrived.
The same woman, who was now been identified as Eva Mbabazi, left about an hour later using the behind entrance she used to enter. SSP Onyango said police could not conclude on the investigations before arresting Mbabazi since she was the last person to be with the deceased.
