Uganda in “Heavy” Negotiations with World Bank

Henry Musasizi, State Minister for Finance, has said Government & World Bank are engaged in heavy negotiations to keep the borrower lender relationship.

This is in regard to the recent decision halting funding to Uganda over the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Act.

The World Bank during this year announced that their funding to Uganda would be halted because of violation of human rights but was open to negotiations.

Musasizi urged Ugandans not to worry about losing the lender saying the negotiations would yield positive results.

He said; “We have continuously provided all the information and addressed all the issues that they keep raising and we are optimistic that we shall reach a position between us and the World Bank which is very positive, so there shouldn’t be any reason to worry about the decision World Bank took.”

Meanwhile at the announcement of the halting of funds , the country took a stand claiming that it would be able to self sustain even with our the World Bank.

At that time emergency meetings were held with the ministry of finance influencing some decisions as budget cuts. The president of Uganda as well assured his nationals noting that the country is wealthy and of age to suppress itself financially.

The update during a parliamentary sitting yesterday has attracted responses from X users.

So what was all the pretence for claiming that the country can survive without loans from World Bank? Some even went ahead to say it was a blessing in disguise.”

Another identifed as Trent M recalled; “The same museveni ministers with his nrm AnitahAmong ,Thomas Tayebwa claimed that they can do without WorldBank and that the anti-homosexual law they passed is unnegotiable so what negotiations are you talking about? It will be embarrassing to Museveni if they back down.”
