UPDF Charges, Remands Cpl Avugo Over Killing His Two Colleagues

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces -UPDF court-martial sitting in the Mountain Division at Muhooti barracks Fortportal city, in Kabarole district, on Friday charged Cpl Peter Avugo Lomilo, with two counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder.

Maj Umar Katamba, the PUDF public information officer for the mountain division and operation Shujaa in DRC said Cpl Lomilo was charged before a seven members court. It was heard that on the night of July 14 this year, Cpl Lomilo shot and killed Pte Richard Anyoro and Sgt Albert Tony Ochen.

Court heard that Cpl Lomilo also attempted to shoot to death his five other colleagues. However, Cpl Lomilo denied all the charges and was remanded to Katoju government prison, Fort-portal city, in Kabarole district up to August 4 when he will return to the same justice temple.

“UPDF commiserates with the bereaved , and we trust our transparent court will deliver justice. We pledge to keep the public informed of the proceedings, until the logical conclusion of the matter,” Maj Katamba said.
