Chief Justice Calls Off Court Business for Annual Law Conference

Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, the Chief Justice of Uganda has declared that courts of law advocates will be exempted from duty for two working days in August. On the 24th and 25th of August 2023, the Uganda Law Society is scheduled to host the annual Law Conference.

According to Sarah Langa Siu the Chief Registrar who reported on behalf of the chief justice, all courts across the country will be a part of this and the days off are to enable advocates participate in the conference.

In part, the notice from Siu read; “The Hon.Chief Justice has granted permission for courts across the country to officially adjourn all matters only where advocates are involved fir the two (2) days, in order for the advocates to participate in the event.”

However, cases that do not require advocates, she mentioned that would go on for hearing. The annual law conference gives advocates across the country to come together and deliberate on different topics, besides it is a time when outstanding legal practitioners are awarded.
