Pastors Ask Gov’t to Empower Churches to Fight Crime

The born again church clergy have requested the government to empower them so that they can be able to transform criminals and drug abusers. The concerned pastors are from the West, North and Central Uganda. They said many people have been taken up by criminal activities and they need rehabilitation.

The pastors, included among others is Wilson Bugembe of the Worship House Nansana, Bishop Johnson Kabuye of Saints Empowerment Church Wakiso, Bishop Nathan Ibrahim Turyamureeba of Daystar Cathedral Mbarara and Pastor Kabuye John of New Life Deliverance Church Makindye.

The call took place in Kampala, Makindye during the opening of the new church construction project worth 1.5b Ugandan Shillings, expected to bring together youths law breakers, criminals and juveniles around the community for transformation, addressed as New Life Deliverance Church International.

Pastor Kabuye John, the vision bearer of New Life Deliverance Church explained that what government and police can do is to arrest but can not change the souls of those individuals who break the laws yet the church can do so.

“Thieves, robbers, drug abusers among others who fall in the same category can transform in the community if the churches and  rehabilitation centers are constructed, especially in the ghetto places. .”

He however, released further information that government can become the biggest donor of other christian established churches just like the support it renders to Namugongo mattyrs shrine, and also provide the churches with security.

Bishop kabuye Johnson explained about leadership in his remarks and mentioned that God, has given people different gifts, some for leadership, some for different aspects, but every gift is made to empower others, leadership is about empowering others to become leaders.

He also included that it is unfortunate how usually people become egocentric, self centered and they become worshiped, becomes a focus and they exploit the people they should lead or empower, just like Christ came to empower us, leaders are here to empower others.

According to Kabuye,” if that is done, this nation should be at peace. So church comes to empower people in a community to come and realize their potentials,” he said.
