At least five family members have been cut to death at Kijonjo village, Kamwozi parish, Buwunga Sub-county, in Masaka district. SP Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka regional police spokesperson, said the gruesome murder happened yesterday night.
Kasirye said the case was brought to the police attention by area chairman, James Basudde 54. The locals have identified the killed family members as James Basudde 54, Emmanuel Mutesasira Ssalongo 57, a traditional healer and his wife Proscovia Ndagano 52.
Other three victims who are all children include Nakamya Nakavuma 13, Robert Kayemba aged two and a half years, and Shivan Nakasaga aged five. Police are yet to establish the particulars of the suspects.
However, police picked two bullet cartridges of an AK47 gun at the scene. It is not yet clear why two cartridges were at the scene yet the victims were cut to death. Police suspect that Ndagano and Nakavuma were raped before they were killed.
“Two female victims above observed to have been raped before or after the killing. The bodies taken to Masaka regional referral hospital for postmortem,” SP Kasirye said.
Police and locals suspect that Mutesasira and his family members might have been by their relatives on allegations of practicing sorcery. It is alleged some relatives have been accusing Mutesasira of bewitching them.
