Eight Members of Motorcycle Robbery Gang Arrested

Police have arrested eight suspected members of the motorcycle robbery gang terrorizing Kampala and its outskirts. The suspects have been arrested by violent crime units with the help of Closed Circuit Television -CCTV cameras.

CCTVs led police to areas of Nkere zone, in Kawempe division where the suspects whose images had already been retrieved were arrested. These include Musasizi Abudu, Asiku Juma aka Bony, Umar Kintu, Mugisha Trevor, Emma Sonko, Kigongo Farouk, Sserugo Mesach, and Wakabi Amis.

At the time of the arrest, police had registered various complaints of victims robbed by the gang of thugs moving on four motorcycles. One of the victims is Leticia Namutebi, a student of Kyambogo who was robbed by the gang on February 16, 2023.

β€œI was attacked by men who were on four motorcycles and they robbed me of my iPhone and money. When I tried to defend myself, one man pulled a sharp panga that had been hidden beneath the seat of the motorcycle,” Namutebi said.

Juma Ssekatwa was robbed last month on the 7th along Mackay Road in Kampala. He was robbed of a mobile phone too. However, when Ssekatwa was being robbed, the police patrol team which was nearby came to his rescue.

β€œHe was engaging them and our team arrived but they managed to escape leaving one motorcycle registration number UFQ 952Y at the scene. Using intelligence and our CCTV team we managed to trace these assailants in Kawempe Nkere zone,” SSP Patrick Onyango, the KMP Police Spokesperson said.

Police are now searching for all the motorcycles and other thugs who have been reported by victims or captured by the CCTVs terrorizing people. One of the remaining ringleaders of the gang has been identified as Otim and police say he will soon be sniffed out of his hideout.
