Lwengo Road Crash Kills 9

Nine people have lost their lives at Kinoni town council, Lwengo district after a head-on collision between a truck and an Alphard. The crash that happened on Saturday at 4 pm happened at Kyoja village along the Masaka-Mbarara highway, claiming nine lives on the spot.

ASP Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police identified the involved vehicle as Alphard UBL 314C that was traveling from Kampala side heading to Mbarara, and a truck with reg no SSD 327S/SSD 137Q that was coming from Mbarara.

Nampiima said preliminary findings indicate that the Alphard driver was at high speed and was keeping right when he crashed head-on with the fuel tanker killing nine people on the spot who were passengers in the former.

Police have said the deceased include, seven adults and two juveniles. Nampiima said the driver of the fuel truck and his turn man, sustained injuries and were rushed for treatment to Masaka referral hospital.

“We want to take this opportunity to warn all motorists traveling upcountry for Easter celebrations to drive carefully, avoid speeding, phone driving, drunk driving, and all other road indiscipline that result in accidents,” ASP Nampiima said.

The Lwengo crash is one of the major road incidents that have claimed the lives of people this week. Three days ago, a Chinese national knocked dead three school pupils at Bukuya road, Kamusenene village, in Kassanda district.  The 2022 annual traffic report shows the number of people dying on roads have increased from 10 to 12 every day.
