The Uganda National Examination Board – UNEB has hired 14,500 teachers to mark the Primary Leaving Examinations – PLE, Senior Four and Senior Six exams.
Jennifer Kalule, the UNEB principal communication officer, said the 6,000 teachers will mark PLE while the rest will be in charge of Ordinary and Advanced secondary school examinations.
“The Board is finalizing preparations for marking examination scripts. We have a total of 41 examination centre a for all the three levels of the examinations. These include 20 for UCE, 13 for PLE and eight for UACE,” Kalule said.
UNEB has also expressed concern over malpractice cases where teachers and connived to hire mercenaries to sit exams for candidates.
Kalule said one teacher identified as Sulaiman Mubiru who opened up a WhatsApp group and shared fake PLE papers.
“Another case involves three suspects who cut a UNEB examination envelope containing a PLE mathematics paper in Butambula. Two of the accused were granted bail while one was remanded till November 30,” Kalule said.
