Police have arrested 89 suspects in a series of operations targeting robbery, theft and other criminal activities in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono districts. The operations, conducted in identified crime-prone areas, also led to the recovery of suspected stolen property, ammunition and items believed to be government stores.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said the operations targeted suspected criminal groups and hideouts believed to be used to plan and execute criminal activities. In Nagalama, Mukono District, three suspects were arrested in Kibuye Village, Kabembe Parish, Kyampisi Sub-county. Police recovered two television sets, a bag of new shoes, two hoovers, household items, a knife and other exhibits.

In Kajjansi, Wakiso District, 24 suspects were arrested during an operation in Nakigalala Kifene, Kitovu and Makandwa cells in Kitende Ward. Police said the operation targeted suspected criminal groups allegedly using the areas as hideouts and bases for planning attacks and stealing property.

In Katwe Division, four suspects were arrested in Zirunumbu during an operation targeting suspected criminal activities. Police recovered an army camouflage uniform, a green hat, 14 bullet cartridges and sticks. The four suspects were charged with unlawful possession of government stores and are awaiting court proceedings.

Meanwhile, 61 suspects were arrested in Entebbe Division during an operation in Lunyo East targeting identified crime spots and suspected hideouts. The suspects are being processed for court. Owoyesigyire said police would continue conducting operations, patrols and surveillance to prevent crime and apprehend those suspected of involvement in criminal activities.

He urged members of the public to report suspicious activities and visit relevant police stations to identify recovered property, advising those claiming ownership to present proof where applicable. Investigations into the different cases are ongoing, and police said the suspects would be presented before court in accordance with the law.
