Lugala police in Lubaga division have arrested four people suspected of participating in spates of vandalizing electric wires.
Police commanded by OC Lugala Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP Oguttu conducted the operation after UMEME officials tipped it that they were suspecting that several stores within the area were containing vandalized electric wires.
A Station Diary reference -SD ref:22/16/11/022 was entered before a raid on the suspected stores was conducted. At the end of the operation, four suspects; Samuel Bulega, Ben Kabugo, Ronald Ayesiga and Bosco Opar were arrested.
However, police did not find the vandalized electric conductors in stores but they were in a Mitsubishi Canter UBB 320B.
The vehicle was impounded and taken to Old Kampala police station since the division OC station ASP Ivan Nuwagaba had also joined the hunt for the culprits.
At Old Kampala, an SD ref 116/16/11/2022 was open and the accused were slapped with charges of theft and vandalism.
The quartet allegedly had three big rolls of electric cables in colour black, two rolls of small electric conductors, a spade, three short pieces of electric poles and rope.
Peter Kaujju the UMEME Spokesperson recently told the media that over 20 billion shillings was spent in the last financial year to replace vandalized electric conductors and poles.
