Another Policeman Knocked Dead in Kampala in 8 Days

A second police officer has been knocked dead in Kampala City in a space of eight days. The latest police officer who has been reduced to road death statistics of this year is Police Constable Anthony Arinaitwe from Kawempe Police station.

Traffic police spokesperson, ASP Faridah Nampiima, explained that Arinaitwe and his colleague, PC Dickson Tumukunde, were riding on motorcycle UP 7862 when unknown vehicle knocked them at the Bwaise-Busega stage along the Northern Bypass.

Nampiima explained that Arinaitwe died as he was being rushed to Mulago. But his his fellow road crash victim Constable Tumukunde was delivered to Mulago where he is currently receiving treatment.

“It is alleged that the officers were on motorised patrol on that stretch when unidentified speeding taxi knocked them down and continued. With the help of the CCTV cameras, we are trying to establish the motor vehicle that knocked the officers and bring the driver to book,” Nampiima said.

Arinaitwe’s knocking to death comes on the heels of the October 29, 2022 when Constable Sam Bazibu who was also on motorcycle patrol was knocked dead by a Fuso truck at Bwaise.

Bazibu was killed on spot while his colleague Brenda Nabifo survived with serious injuries. Police using CCTV cameras arrested the Fuso truck driver in Nateete as he was fleeing. The killer Fuso truck was identified as UAM 809L. The crash that killed Bazibu happened at 4 am while that of Arinaitwe occured yesterday at 9:25pm.
