A nine months old baby, Messiah Akankwasa, has died after being vaccinated at Daphine medical centre, in Kabalagala, Makindye division, in Kampala. The deceased was taken to the clinic by the mother, Geraldine Ainembabazi, for vaccination but the toddler instantly became weak after receiving the shot and eventually died.
Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said the doctor and nurse who gave the shot that exterminated the baby’s life, have since been arrested and detained at Kabalagala police stations as investigations into the incident progress.
The suspects, Dr Doreen Akuku and Nurse Joan Nabakooza, are in the coolers at Kabalagala police station as police waits for the toxicological results from the samples that were taken from the deceased’s body.
Ainembabazi explains that even when the two health workers realized that baby had died, they still gave here reference letter to Mukwaya General Hospital which is opposite the American Embassy along the Gaba road.
But health workers at Mukwaya General Hospital noticed that the baby was long dead upon arrival. This forced the mother to rush Kabalagala police with the corpse and open a case that led to the arrest of the health workers.
