Iganga Municipality Demolishes Structures Blocking Public Road in Munyegera

BY DANIEL MUMBYA: Iganga Municipality has demolished structures that were allegedly blocking a public road along Munyegera Road in the Northern Division.

The operation was conducted by the Town Clerk of Iganga Municipality, Majerani Luboyera, together with the security team and the municipal physical planner.

According to Luboyera, the aim of the demolition was to reopen the road and restore access for residents.

He said the affected residents had consented to the demolition before the exercise commenced.

Luboyera added that the process faced resistance from some people who questioned why their houses were being demolished. Some residents accused local tycoons of blocking the road and denying their neighbors access to the path.

The demolition has drawn mixed reactions, with some residents welcoming the move while others protested the destruction of their houses. Most of those who welcomed the intervention argued that reopening the road would improve accessibility and ease movement within the area.

Among those affected by the exercise is Hajji Hussein Abdullah, the LCI Chairperson of Mutukula Zone.

However, disagreement emerged during the demolition when some houses were reportedly skipped, including NIRA offices and other houses whose owners had reportedly reached an agreement with their neighbors.

Some affected residents were given time to relocate their structures from the road reserves.
