Police and sister security agencies in Mubende have arrested, John Musana, a driver of ministry of health after he was allegedly found loading passengers heading to Kampala. Musana was allegedly ferrying passengers in a Costa with registration number UG 3931 while in colour.
“Territorial police in Mubende have impounded ministry of health vehicle UG 3931m Costa white in color. This vehicle was sighted by our teams on patrol loading passengers along Kampala -Mubende highway and this is contrary to the presidential directive against the fight of Ebola,” a senior police office in Wamala region said.
President Yoweri Museveni imposed a 21 days’ lockdown in Mubende and Kassanda district which are the epicenters of Ebola outbreak. Museveni banned any movement of civilians be it by bicycle, motorcycle or cars from the named districts.
“Musana is currently detained at Mubende central police station. He will be charged of doing neglect act likely to cause spread of infectious disease to wit Ebola,” security source said.
Security forces had by Monday impounded 222 motorcycles and 28 including arresting five people who were allegedly defying the presidential directive intended to control the spread of Ebola. However, deputy Inspector General of Police- Maj Gen Katsigazi Tumusiime, ordered for release of the impounded vehicles but warned owners not to flout the guidelines again.
Ebola has killed nearly 30 people in Mubende, and Kassanda. Other people who have died of diagnosed with the deadly disease had contracted it from the same districts. Dozens are currently battling it in Mubende, Entebbe and Fort Portal hospitals.
