Fourth Foreign Truck Driver Suddenly Dies on Uganda roads

Another foreign truck driver has suddenly died on Uganda roads. The latest victim of abrupt death is Mayari Matayo Mbusa, a Congolese national who died on Friday at Kakatunda trading centre along Mbarara- Kabale highway.

Mbusa’s abrupt demise brings the number to four foreign truck drivers who have died behind steering or died minutes after parking in the past few months. Mbusa, according to Kigezi regional police spokesperson, Elly Mate, died after parking on a roadside.

Assistant Inspector of Police- AIP Alex Ainebyoona, who is the Officer in Charge –OC Bukinda Police Post, reported Mbusa’s death. The deceased was chauffeuring a trailer with registration number 1869AA/19-1870AA/19.

“He was transporting fuel from Kenya through Busia to Goma and was together with the turn man one Emmanuel Magaviro Kambale 27 yrs. It’s alleged that the deceased through the journey, felt sickly and would make the turn man also drive to get relief and was on pressure medication,” Mate said.

The acting Rukiga District Police Commander- DPC Assistant Superintendent of Police –ASP Frank Tusiime, organized police vehicle that took Mbusa’s corpse to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for postmortem. Since Mbusa was ferrying fuel, police deployed to guard the trailor that could have been vandalized by evil minded persons.

Recently, Tanzania truck driver identified as Mudrikate Suudi, died behind steering at Bajja Village, Lukaya Town Council along Masaka-Kampala highway. Suudi, according to documents that were found with him was aged 56.

Suudi was also driving fuel tank registration number T 541 CSA. He had left Kampala heading to Masaka but he abruptly stopped in the middle of the busy highway. This paralysed traffic flow four several hours.

Police commanded by OC Lukaya police station, ASP Vianney Birungi, attempted to tow the truck away from the road but they struggled for several hours since it was too heavy. Suudi was driving alone but Kalungu RDC advised truck drivers to always move with a colleague with similar driving skills.

Samuel Kinywa Wangware 35, a Kenyan truck driver was also found dead in suspicious scenario. Wangware died awaiting for authorization to enter Uganda at a checkpoint that had been erected to control the spread of Covid19. Wangware died at Busitema revenue checkpoint in Busia district.

Another Kenyan truck driver died in first Covid19 lockdown. He died soon after he had been taken to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu district for isolation since he had symptoms similar to those of Covid19.
