After spending a night in custody, police have released the 30 teenagers who were arrested on Thursday afternoon boozing and smoking at a friend’s house.
The teenagers were arrested by Kira Road police in the afternoon operation carried out in the area of Bukoto. The teenagers according to deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, were having a party in a friend’s house.
Police swung into action after the public complained about a group of teens over 100, who had gathered in one house and were making too much noise for the community.
Since this was also against the Covid19 guidelines that prohibit crowding, police mounted an operation where a number of teenagers were arrested with exhibits ranging from Sisha pots and alcohol.
Nevertheless, the biggest number escaped but in the process left property destroyed property. Most the teenagers’ parents were shocked to learn that their children had been arrested partying yet they had left them at their respective homes.
Listening to pleas from parents, police on Friday morning released the teenagers after cautioning. The parents were urged to keep a kin eye on their children since they are idle because school were closed due to Covid19.
“The police engagement with their parents and released them unconditionally. We want to urge parents to at all-time make sure their children are safe and are not engaging in any criminal activities,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
