At least five people are in police cells on suspicions of orchestrating the murder of a 63-year-old man in Rukungiri District on Sunday night.
Kigezi region police spokesperson, Elly Mate, identified the deceased as Yoram Twebaze who was a resident of Nyaruhungye cell, Kikongo parish, Bambara Sub county, Rukungiri district.
Mate said Twebaze had for a long time domestic been entangled in a domestic violence with his family where by his son one, Ivan Ndyabagye, aged 19 often demanded for a piece of land in order to construction his house.
Twebaze, according to police, refused not until last Friday when the village Chairman intervened and compelled the father to give him land. Twebaze still refused even when the LCII Chairperson intervened.
Mate said the deceased was lastly seen on Sunday in the accompany of Ngabi Lawrence, Nuwagaba Ezra and Kisheija Stanley. “Yesterday at around 0700hrs his body was found lying in eucalyptus tree plantation beside the path to his home. The matter was reported to Bikurungu police station and later to cps Rukungiri whereby scene was visited, postmortem done at the scene,” Mate said.
Police has since picked the last three people who were seen with Twebaze hours before his murder including Kwarija Slivia aged 40 and the mother to Ivan Ndyabagye to assist in investigations.
