Kampala, Uganda — Kampala Metropolitan Police has arrested dozens of suspects in a series of coordinated operations targeting crime hotspots across the city, authorities said in a statement released Tuesday. The operations, conducted in Kabalagala, Kira, Old Kampala, and Wandegeya, were aimed at curbing criminal activity, improving public safety, and dismantling organized criminal networks within the metropolitan area.

Police said several suspects were picked up from areas known for robberies, narcotics trade, and possession of suspected stolen property. In Kabalagala, officers responding to an incident in Kisasizi Zone, Kibuli Parish, discovered that a 36-year-old mason, identified as Olowo Dominic, had died after being electrocuted.
Authorities believe he came into contact with a clothes-hanging wire that had become live with electricity. His body was taken to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination as investigations continue to determine the source of the current. Meanwhile, in Bukasa, Nsambya West, and Buyondo Zone, police arrested several individuals suspected of attacking motorists and engaging in other criminal acts. The suspects have since been charged and are awaiting court appearance.
In Kira Division, an operation in Kyaliwajjala Zone, Namugongo, led to the arrest of 11 suspects allegedly linked to robberies. Police recovered items believed to be stolen, along with narcotic substances, knives, and tools including a pick axe. Elsewhere, in Old Kampala Division, eight suspects were arrested in Nakulabye and Kasubi during raids on known drug-selling points and suspected criminal hideouts.
In Wandegeya Division, 15 suspects were apprehended in Kikoni, Kapapali, and Old Mulago areas. They are accused of involvement in crimes such as shop break-ins and participating in unlawful late-night gatherings around bars. All suspects remain in custody undergoing screening, investigations, and legal processing.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the force will continue conducting similar operations alongside community policing initiatives and regular patrols. “We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents through sustained enforcement efforts and collaboration with local leaders,” he said. Police indicated that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
