18 Year Old Woman Arrested Over Killing Agemate in Fight for Charcoal Stove

Police in Nsangi, Wakiso District, has arrested an 18 year old woman identified as Swabura Arinde for allegedly killing her agemate, Grace Anyima, during fight for a charcoal stove.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, said Swabura, has been arrested by the Nsangi Police Division.

“She’s arrested for allegedly murdering her 18-year-old colleague, Anyima Grace, at Dema Bakery in Rabai Estate, Kyengera town council, Wakiso District. The incident occurred on August 12, 2025, around 5:00 p.m,” Onyango said.

Information gathered by police indicates that a fight erupted between the two girls over a shared charcoal stove, where Swabura removed Grace’s saucepan to cook water first.

“The situation escalated, and Swabura allegedly stabbed Grace in the back. Despite attempts by their colleagues to rush Grace to the hospital, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries,” Onyango said.

Nsangi police officers visited the crime scene and found Grace’s body with a cut wound on her left upper back. Among the exhibits picked from the murder scene was a green-handled knife with suspected blood stains found near the body.

“Signs of a scuffle were observed at the scene. The suspect is currently in police custody at Nsangi, and relevant statements have been recorded. This incident highlights the importance of conflict resolution and managing disputes peacefully,” Onyango said.

Onyango said the police are continuing their investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the murder.
