
Police in Kabalagala is holding two men accused of forging American Visas. Oscar Bamwenda and Steven Nyeko alias Toby’s arrest came after their friend Smith Daniel Mubiru went to the American Embassy in Nsambya along Ggaba road to check whether the Visa in one of their passports was genuine.
The US embassy checked the Visa in the passport and noticed that it was a forgery thus prompting the detectives attached to the same premises to apprehend Mubiru. This happened at around midday on a Monday, September 19.
Mubiru led detectives to the Hotel opposite Centenary Bank Kabalagala branch where another suspect Bamwenda was arrested as he allegedly waited to be paid 12 million shillings for forged Visas.
Senior Superintendent of Police- SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, said Bamwenda also led police to the hideout of Nyeko whom he accused of being the mastermind of Visa forgeries.
Police took Bamwenda and Nyeko to Kabalagala cells under open a case file with reference number SD 130/19/09/2022. SSP Onyango has urged the public to follow the right procedures if they want US Visas or any travel documents from another country.
The incident comes a week after police arrested foreign ministry officials who helped 11 Ugandans to travel to the US on forged Diplomatic notes.
