The KMP deputy police spokesperson.

Esther Nankya, a resident of Mukono district has been arrested on allegations of killing her two children on Wednesday night for unknown reasons. The deceased have been identified as Shaban Kamoga 6, and Ramathan Lubega 3 years.

Musa Kamya, the deceased children’s father said he returned home and noticed that there was no anyone to open the gate for him. He then decided to call Nankya to know where they had gone but she claimed not to be feeling well.

Kamya opened the gate himself but his eye landed on the children’s bodies lying in a pool of blood. Out of shock, Kamya made an alarm which attracted the neighbours. The area leaders quickly alerted police about the tragedy.

By the time police arrived, the charged locals had started pouncing on Nankya. Nevertheless, police successfully rescued the suspect and she is currently detained at Mukono Central Police Station.

Assistant Superintendent of Police -ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, said police’s preliminary investigations show the victims were strangled and then severally hit on the walls.

“The police officers who responded to the scene observed several open wounds on their necks. It is alleged that the suspect strangled and hit the victims on the wall several times until they died,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Police have planned to subject Nankya to mental examination purposely to understand whether it is an act aforethought or a result of mental issues. Once it is proven that Nankya acted with her full conscious, she will be arraigned in court on murder charges. But if she is mentally disturbed, she will be handed over to mental health facilities.
