A TikToker, Nassif Jjingo, was arrested for spreading false information about the death of Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi, Member of Parliament for Mawokota South. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly received Shs 100,000 from Nsibambi’s political opponents to share the fake news on his social media account.
Onyango said Nsibambi reported the incident to the police, leading to Jjingo’s arrest under the Computer Misuse Act. Nassif confessed to the crime, revealing he was paid by Nsibambi’s opponents in the country to tarnish his image. Nassif is detained at CPS Kampala.
“The police urge the public to use social media responsibly and avoid spreading misinformation, especially during this political period where such tactics can be used to discredit opponents. Police caution against accepting to be used,” Onyango said.
