Police in Entebbe have arrested two suspects over the gruesomely murdered Entebbe couple, David Mutaaga and Deborah Florence Mutaaga. The couple which worked abroad held a party on Sunday with friends and some relatives at their home, at Lugonjo, Nakiwogo cell, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.

The couple was stabbed to death by a masked man who according to police scaled over a perimeter wall two hours after the party had ended. The Mutaaga’s had celebrated their return to Uganda after spending more than 30 years living in Zurich, Switzerland.

Police Spokespersons for Kampala Patrick Onyango and Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the murder and added that police was following all leads to ensure that the culprits are arrested. So far, two people identified as Angela Nakalema and David Golooba have been arrested to help in investigations.

It has since emerged that the arrested suspects were workers at the couple’s home but they were not residing in the premises. According to information so far gathered by police, Nakalema and Golooba left the couple’s home approximately a quarter to 8pm.

“We have arrested these people to help in our investigations. We are trying to search for the murderer and also trying to understand what could be the motive for this crime,” Patrick Onyango said.

However, the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras retrieved from the killed couple’s home shows the killer dressed in black and had masked his face. According to detectives, the murderer scaled over a perimeter using an electric pole near the couple’s home.

“This was not a robber but a true murderer who did not want any item from the couple. His mission was to kill them. He had done enough surveillance and he knew where to pass and knew all the camera poits,” detectives said.

Detectives have so far indicated that the killer is heard in the CCTV sound telling the man that he had come to kill them. He then stabs him in the chest targeting the heart and later on drags him outside the house and orders him to open the gate which was remote controlled.

“After opening the gate, he stabbed him several times and until he was sure he was dead. He later walked back into the house and went into the woman’s bedroom which was upstairs. He broke the door which the woman had fasten because she had seen how her husband was being killed. The woman was also stabbed, left naked and legs spread,” investigators said.

Although the man was taking a glass of wine at the time of the attack, the woman was speaking on a mobile phone and she used the same to inform neighbours and Angela Nakalema that they had been attacked and asked them to return in order to save their lives.

“Deborah called Angela Nakalema and asking her and David Golooba to come back because they had been attacked. She also called one of the neighbours and another friend. She really tried to call for help but this help came a bit late,” police said.

One of the neighbours who received a distress call from Deborah Mutaaga alerted Entebbe police which arrived at the scene but it was too later to save them from the determined killer. The gate was found open while the man’s body was near the exit. Upon reaching the bedroom, it was discovered that killer did not take anything from the couple because the mobile phones and some money which was reportedly in vicinity wasn’t taken.

Basing on the words the killer told the couple as captured by the CCTV cameras, it is believed that the crime was committed over property sharing. It is alleged that David Mutaaga was a here to his late father but did not share the property with siblings and chose to stay abroad as he enjoyed the wealth.

It is said some of the family members kept the anger and show an opportunity to revenge once they noticed that they had retired back to Uganda and living alone in the huge Manson alone. However, these claims are yet to be substantiated police. The killer’s words could also be a diversionary trick to hide the actual motive.
