The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Rwanda, Hon. Juvenal Marizamunda
has today officially the 13th Edition of the EAC Armed Forces Field Training Exercise dubbed ‘Ushirikiano Imara’ at the Rwanda Defence Force Military Academy, Gako.
The exercise is under the theme, “Strengthening the Security Sector Integration and Harnessing Common Interests Consistent with EAC Regional Peace and Security.”
“It is crucial for countries to embrace cooperation as it’s the best foundation stone for our desired long-lasting peace for the region,” said Hon. Marizamunda.
He encouraged the participating forces and components to take the exercise seriously, learn from each other, and share experiences which will, in the long run, strengthen regional cooperation to stamp out existing security threats in the region.
Col Deng Mayom Manyang Malaul, on behalf of the EAC Secretary General, observed that the exercise is timely since the community is streamlining the security integration and will help evaluate and test the region’s readiness in response to the complex security situations.
Relatedly, Uganda’s Minister of State for Defence and Veterans Affairs (Defence), Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, visited the Ugandan contingent participating in the Field Training Exercise.
Hon. Nyirabashitsi UPDF and the participating components and commended them for showcasing the contingent’s preparedness.
The 13th Edition of the EAC Armed Forces Field Training Exercise has attracted participants from all member states of the East African Community.
