The Chief of Staff – Land Forces, Major General Jack Agonza Bakasumba has said that training is instrumental in building the capacity of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces to intervene and solve situations at different levels and at the right time.
“We have to train hard to enhance our capacity and cohesiveness to act decisively and achieve any desired end-state,” said Maj Gen Bakasumba.
Maj Gen Bakasumba made the remarks during the pass-out of 108 officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) who completed the Junior Command and Staff Course (JCSC) at the Junior Command and Staff College in Gaddafi Barracks, Jinja City.
He re-echoed that UPDF’s training strategies are being achieved as the force can ably train its personnel in all military career courses from Basic training to National Defence College-NDC.
He challenged the officers to practice the skills and knowledge they have attained wherever they are deployed for both command and staff duties, adding that the learning modules undertaken should reflect and shape them into good commanders and staff officers depicting a professional career officers.
“You must continue upholding the UPDF ethos of our mighty force and on top of everything be loyal to your leaders and the country. You must maintain an unquestionable integrity,” he urged the Officers.
The COS-LF encouraged officers to keep in mind the determination, composure and attention to the views of others and they should remember to be driven by both a contemporary and historical sense of the UPDF.
The Deputy Chief of Training and Recruitment, Brig Gen Fred Twinamastiko who represented the Chief of Training and Recruitment thanked the officers for greatly moving a training journey and attaining the tools of analysis which remain helpful in future assignments.
He commended the Commandant and Directing Staff for flying the noble flag high as it was exhibited during the tactical demonstration. The College Commandant, Brig Gen Chris Ogwal said that the middle-level training for intermediate commanders and staff officers is meant to qualify the personnel for employment as competent and resourceful personnel in peace, wartime and operations other than war at unit and formation levels.
He noted that the course objectives were intended to equip students with skills and tools of analysis in operations of war and the transitional phases during operations and analyzing the functions of the Army in support of the civil authority among others.
“I have the conviction that the Directing Staff did their part to equip you with the necessary knowledge, skills and tools of analysis that will enable you to perform effectively,” said Brig Gen Ogwal.
The Officers who included eight (08) females were awarded Grade III certificates and officers who performed exceptionally received gifts for their recognition and motivation. The graduation ceremony was attended by General and Senior officers of UPDF and Uganda Police Force, Civil leaders and spouses among others.
