Kampala Archbishop Assures Catholics That Marriage Traditions Remain Intact
His Grace Dr. Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala, has called to Catholics to remain steadfast as church marriage tradition remains intact.

According to Ssemogerere, based on the church doctrine, only same sex marriages will be blessed and wedded within the church. The remarks were made as the Arch Bishop delivered a Christmas message before the press at Lubaga Cathedral on Thursday morning.

Since the recent release of a document from the Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Faith regarding the pastoral blessing, interpretation to individuals globally came up that the pope had endorsed blessing of same sex marriages in the Catholic church. This stirred significant debate all over the world questioning the doctrinal stand of the church on marriage.

The archbishop went ahead to say that he had received no message from Vatican to make any alterations, until then the marriage traditions are to be upheld.

Before the clarity, some of the Catholic faithful were lobbying that the church follow the Anglican church of Uganda’s direction which necessitated that they break off their allegiance to the Anglican Church of England when it endorsed blessing the union of same sex marriages.
