Excitement as Grasshoppers Reach Kampala Market

The long wait is over for Uganda’s capital Kampala city where residents have been asking about the whereabouts of their delicacy nsenene(grasshoppers).

The season which is the month of November was turning unfortunately unpredictable when weeks went by without a single trace of nsenene with the city markets.

As of this morning according to news from Daily Monitor, passenger service vehicles and other saloon cars laden with sacks of
grasshoppers (Nsenene) were spotted speeding towards Kampala along Mubende-Fort Portal Road on November 22, 2023.

The X post from news daily handle reports that according to one of the drivers, the insects which were previously a reserve of Masaka Town in central Uganda, are now being harvested from Kalukutu in Ntoroko District in western Uganda.

In Ntoroko, a 25kg sack is costing Shs180,000.Part of the delay has been attributed to changes in weather seasons as a result of climate effects .

The delicacy is consumed by the largest population in the city except a few who majorly because of clan obligations among the Baganda can not indulge .

Through a poll set up by a one Mugyebale on X over 67percent have voted to have ever tested the delicacy , 33percent at the moment have voted to never have tested it.

Some of the comments from avid followers on X expressing pure delight were ;

Lubambula Kizito responds ; “Cars carrying Nsenene should have the right of way.”

Mutebi Rolland endearingly notes; “Welcome to us ba dear , nga mubadde mutukyaye nyo”(Welcome to us dear ones ,you had forsaken us.”

Faizafabs is moved to action; “I want to buy a sack.”
