Uganda Prisons Refutes Inmates Starvation Claims

Frank Baine , the Senior Commissioner of Prisons has refuted starvation allegations made by prisoners on trial for Magara murder case.

On Tuesday October 31, it is noted that the prisoners alleged to their lawyer to have missed super the day before and breakfast while in custody at Uganda Maximum Security Prison Upper Luzira.

According to Baine however , the same prisoners had dinner after court on the Monday as well as breakfast on 31 October with all the rest before proceeding to court.

He also noted that contrary to their claims , the prisoners had received visitors proven with records in the prison’s register.

In total the prisoners had received 10 visitors as listed by Bane.

“It is absolutely not true that the prisoners are starving and never got a chance to be visited at court, said Baine.

According to him, Uganda prisons are committed to adhere to the Mandela rules stipulating international standards on the treatment of offenders.
