The territorial police in Busoga has arrested eight suspects involved in robbery of motorcycles in Buyende district .
The arrests came after the police conducted two operations in the area
leading to the recovery of 7 suspected stolen motorcycles and one assortment of dismantled spare parts .
The eight suspects arrested include; Lubega Kenneth, Kitimbo Yusuf, Isma Dolio, Nfaki Solomon, Nfaki David, Kitimbo James, (garage owner), Kireri Fred, a boda boda rider of Nakabira stage and Bulolo Alex.
On the September 24,2023, at around 10pm, a gang of 3 robberies, ambushed motorcycle riders at Nakitokolo village, along Bbaa80le – Galilaya highway. They hit and killed Wavamuno Ben, who was carrying his brother, Mumpya Mesach on motorcycle registration number UFR 907Y. The brother ran to a nearby farm and was taken to Kasokwe police post. The body of the victim was recovered with a deep wound on the forehead. Another rider, identified as Musinguzi John, was found lying unconscious and his motorcycle robbed. He was rushed to Bbaale HC IV for treatment.
Another incident was registered in Aswa West, Nwoya police station, where a one, Okello Dickens was followed at his home in Adogachwa village, Lungulu sub county, Nwoya district and his motorcycle, Bajaja boxer red in color robbed. The victim who was hit to the head, was rushed to hospital.
Again on the September 29 2023, at around 11:20pm, both Kiranga Moses, aged 28 and Isabirye Samuel, were riding on motorcycle registration number UFX 475G, bajaj boxer red in color, from Nawaikoke village, proceeding to Kasuleta village in Kaliro district. They fell into an ambush at Kafundikara village and the rider, Kiranga Moses was hit with a rod and killed instantly, and their motorcycle robbed. His colleague, Isabirye Samuel, sustained serious injuries and rushed to Bumanya HC IV for treatment.
Police Spokesperson Enanga Fred mentioned that the arrest of the criminal racket is a demonstration of the police’s resolve to fight and counter criminal elements behind boda boda attacks, robberies and murders.
He further cautioned boda riders to be on guard and avoid late night duty saying ; “As we charge the 8 suspects to court, we continue to caution boda bodas, about late night road ambushes, by gangs targeting their boda bodas.”
