
At least two Special Forces Command –SFC soldiers were shot dead four days ago in Kiruhura district following a scuffle with military patrol team. The deceased soldiers have been identified as Pte James Oduku and Pte Paul Okiria.
This death by fire exchange between two military groups was brought to police attention by Lieutenant Wilson Ssenyonga the Investigating Officer of Ruhengyere Barracks in Kiruhura District. Although Pte Oduku and Pte Okirira died, their colleague Pte Charles Onenchan survived with injuries.
Security sources said on July 2, 2023 at around 10 pm 2200hrs, soldiers on an army patrol team who were on duty chasing other soldiers loitering in the trading centre of Rugaaga landed of a group of over 50 SFC soldiers and a scuffle ensued.

“The patrol met about 50 SFC soldiers in the same centre. They refused and attempted to disarm the patrol group. In the process the patrol group shot two dead and one seriously injured,” sources said.
The murder scene was visited by Kiruhura District Police Commander- DPC, Officer Incharge of Criminal Investigations –OC CID, and Scene of Crime Officers –SOCO. “The DPC, OC CID and other officers visited the scene and documented it. The dead were taken to second division hospital for postman and the injured taken to the same hospital for treatment,” sources said.
This incident has been recorded on Kiruhura Station Diary –SD 08/03/07/2023 and Criminal Kiruhura Central Police Station Registration Book –CRB 304/2023. The incident happened at Rugaaga Cell, Kayonza Parish, Kikatsi Sub-county, in Kiruhura District.
