Airtel, ISBAT, and Simplifi Partner to Create Internet Awareness

Three technology enthusiastic companies Airtel, Simplifi network and ISBAT university, have formed a partnership to teach Ugandans on the effective use of the internet.

This partnership, is the third edition of these companies working together in a campaign known as Simplifi Tech Talks. This edition’s first session training dubbed “How does the Internet Work?”, has been held today at ISBAT university main campus, graced by a number of technologically inspired people, including students, and ICT specialists.

The Simplifi Tech Talks, are a series of training meetings, tailored to simplify technological applications that are used in daily life, to reduce frustration, and later increase adaptability of ICT solutions in the Uganda society.

Allan Ssemakula, Airtel’s Enterprises development manager, who was the main discussant, said that this partnership will help to facilitate the break down of the technological solutions to end users, which will in turn improve usability.

“We recognize the complexities technology imposes on the users, and it’s our duty to break it down for them. Technological awareness I much needed among users in Uganda, and this partnership will facilitate it,” says Ssemakula.

According to Ssemakula, the increase in awareness among the Uganda population, will also help eliminate number of base less fears many people have about many ICT solutions.

Kenneth Stober, the Simplifi CEO and group managing director, highlighted that this edition aims at familiarizing and engaging the average users and the general public with key internet aspects like connectivity, band width, accessibility, and help them understand the practical use of ISP (3G, 4G, and 5G).

He adds that the talks will also give provide chance to professionals through light to the new ICT solutions which are often misunderstood which limits their applicability.

“The tech talks bring an opportunity to get new insights and ideas from an array of interactive and learning sessions with leading professionals to increase awareness on the new trending technologies in the market and attract appreciation” Stober says.

According to Stober, the Ugandan ICT market is still tough and still growing. He said many issue need to be taken into account, especially by the government and the regulators of the sector.

“I have been in this market for now ten years, and I have seen it grow to where it is now. But the two outstanding constraints to its faster growth, are the too heavy taxes levied on the Internet, and the lack of regularized standards on the material and appliances that are used,” stated Stober.
