KCCA FC has zeroed down to Portuguese coach Sergio Daniel Moniz Traguil as the new head coach of the club, replacing interim coach Jackson Mayanja who has held the position since April.
In an official statement signed by CEO Anisha Muhoozi, KCCA FC announced on Monday that the Portuguese coach, who holds a UEFA A License and is currently pursuing a UEFA Pro License, has been awarded a two-year contract to revive the club’s lost Glory.
This announcement puts an end to the long-standing speculations rooted in different sports tabloids surrounding the return of former KCCA FC coaches Mike Mutebi and Sam Simbwa to the Lugogo-based club.
Sergio Moniz, who will assume his role on July 1, 2023, has previously coached various clubs including Kaduna United in Nigeria, Hearts of Oak in Ghana, Singida Big Stars in Tanzania, Santa Rita, CD Lunda Sul, Kabuscorp in Angola, and Mriat SC in Oman.
He replaces former Cranes player-turned-manager Jackson Mayanja, who had been with KCCA FC since April when he took over as an interim coach to salvage the team’s fortunes but failed to lead KCCA FC to the league title.

Mayanja came in towards the end of the season to replace Morley Byekwaso who had resigned after a decline in the team’s performance, but also struggled to rectify their declining situation and narrowly missed out on the league title to Vipers.
Nevertheless, KCCA FC has great faith in the new Portuguese coach and believes that he will restore the former glory of the Kampala giants.
“KCCA Football Club will greatly benefit from Sergio’s extensive expertise, commitment to excellence, and character. He is a highly successful coach who has operated at the highest levels in different leagues across the continent. Moreover, he aligns with the club’s philosophy of playing beautiful football and nurturing talent,” stated CEO Muhoozi in a press release.
