Wife Shot Dead, Husband, Baby Nursing Bullet Wounds

Gun recovered from Karimojong warriors getting destroyed.

A wife to a deputy head teacher of Atedeoi Primary in Moroto district was yesterday evening shot dead. The husband and one year old baby survived with bullet wounds.

Mike Longole, the acting Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson, said a case file of murder by shooting has been opened.

This incident happened at Atedeoi Primary school, Lotisan Subcounty, when Peter Chepsikor’s home was attacked by gunman.

Longole said the family of the deputy headteacher was attacked at around 10:32 pm by suspected Karimojong warriors.

The deceased wife has been identified as Joy Chebet while the one year old baby is called Elenora.

“The two injured persons were rushed to Moroto Regional Hospital for treatment and they are out of danger,” Longole said.

Police has since dispatched a team of it’s personnel led by RPC Mt Moroto to probe the murder.

“Our canine was introduced to the scene and led to the arrest of one prime suspect. Two teachers of the same school were arrested in connection to the murder and relevant statements were recorded,” Longole said.

Police are yet to establish the motive of the murder. Chebet’s body was taken to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital for Postmortem.

Security has requested the community to remain calm as they complete the investigation and produce the suspects in courts of law.

Moroto and other districts in Karamoja Sub-region have been experiencing a high crime rate rotating on cattle rustling.
