The suspects have allegedly been participating in robbery of mobile phones and money.
ASP Elly Mate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson has identified the suspected thugs arrested today as Asiimwe Joshua, Niwebyona Gilbert, Muhwezi Alexander, Niwebyona Nicholas and,Teriyeitu Ezra.
Police said all the five suspects netted today are residents of Kiyora cell Rutoma parish Northern division, Kabale municipality, in Kabale district.
Today’s arrest followed a midnight attack on a radio journalist and another person who came to the former’s rescue.
“It is alleged that today morning on at Kiyora trading centre along Bunyonyi road one Muhangi Anderson 33, a journalist working with K-town Radio was attacked on his way home by those mentioned thugs. They hit him and stole his mobile phone and UGX 35,000,” ASP Mate said.

When Muhangi screamed for help, a one Evelyn who also owns a bar wanted to help him out but she too was badly hit and injured with a blunt object on the chest leaving her to bleed almost to death.
ASP Mate added that police was alerted and swung in action. However, the thugs wanted to fight police with machetes and in self defense one, Abaho Moses Bruno, was shot in the shoulder and is currently admitted at Kabale referral hospital.
Earlier on, police had rounded up and arrested eight suspects at Kekubo ward in Kabale municipality.
ASP Mate said the eight suspects arrested on Tuesday night are suspected to be among those who have been terrorizing area of Kabale town and it’s suburbs after they attacked and assaulted the area chairperson one Byarugaba Alex who was escorting his children for unknown reason.
Police have identified suspects arrested on Tuesday as Taremwa Godwin, Ngabirano Christopher, Nuwagaba Blessing, Niwamanya Philemon, Twinamatsiko Duncan, Akankwasa Dickson, Byomuhangi Daniel and Akintoranire Brian.
Police said both case files are being investigated and upon completion of inquiries, the suspects will be arraigned before courts of law as operations proceed.
