At least two family members were on Wednesday killed by lightning at Keita village, Nyabitete parish, Bungangari sub-county, in Rukungiri district.
ASP Elly Mate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, has identified the deceased as Enoth Tukwasibwe 30, and his mother Jolly Baryakabuza aged 75. Police said the victims who were all peasants met their death at home.
“They were struck by lightning and died instantly. This occurred at around 17:00 pm at their home during a heavy downpour when the old woman was in the kitchen preparing supper and the son was in the main house with the father who was not affected,” ASP Mate said.

Tukwasibwe and Baryakabuza’s death was notified to the police by the area chairperson Warugaba and the scene was visited by the community liaison officer Assistant Inspector of Police -AIP Mugisha.
It is now six days since it started pouring heavily in various parts of Uganda. Some areas have flooded and there is fear of possible landslides. The Tuesday downpour in Kampala killed a two year old child.
