Augustine Nyeko 66, is now part of this year’s murder statistics after he was killed by his wife and daughter for advising her to respect his son in-law. Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, has identified Nyeko’s wife as Santa Laduu 50, and daughter as Concy Amony 28.

Nyeko’s death started when he visited and advised her daughter after learning that she had a domestic conflict with her husband. Nyeko discouraged her daughter from entering a new relationship with another man.

The deceased and suspects were residents of Labongo village, Pagak Parish, Amuru district. Police said when Nyeko returned home, he could not suspect that his advice had angered her daughter and wife.

“This angered her daughter, who attacked and assaulted him. She was joined by her mother; a housewife and they pushed the victim down. Nyeko hit his head on the ground and died. They locked his body in the house,” Enanga said.

Nyeko was recovered dead last Saturday at around midday by Wokolanya Patrick, and a report was made to the police. Police have arrested Laddu and her daughter Amony to face charges of murder. “We strongly condemn such acts of inter-familiar violence and urge families to always engage the LCs, police, and respected members of the community, to address their differences,” Enanga said.

The Criminal Investigations Directorate -CID released the 2022 crime report showing domestic violence is still one of the major contributors to homicides in Uganda. At least 291 people were killed last year as a result of aggravated domestic violence. Of these, 114 were male adults, 134 were female adults, 30 were male juveniles and 13 were female juveniles.
